Profile

Joseph Ura is Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Department of Political Science at Clemson University. Dr. Ura previously held faculty positions at Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he completed his M.A. and B.A. in political science at George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Dr. Ura's research addresses American national politics, especially judicial politics, public opinion, and political representation. He and his co-authors contributed articles to the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, Political Research Quarterly, and other peer-reviewed journals in political science.

Dr. Ura offers courses addressing American government, political institutions, and judicial politics, and he has been recognized for outstanding teaching with the Association of Former Students Award for Teaching Excellence in the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M, the Texas A&M Student Led Award for Teaching Excellence, the Student Undergraduate Teaching Award from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Earle Wallace Award for outstanding teaching by a graduate student in the Department of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
