ProfileDr. Kimberly P. Johnson is a lecturer within the Youth Development Leadership program at Clemson University. She is also a curriculum design specialist for the King Center in Atlanta, Ga. and a creative curriculum specialist for A.C.E. Academy in North Carolina. Dr. Kimberly Johnson is the author of 28 children’s books and educational resources. Before her role at Clemson University, Dr. Johnson was the Community Impact Director for United Way of York County where she developed and implemented a community summer program called, Community T.E.A.M.S. The program served as a bridge between elementary and middle school. The program focused on integrating leadership components and intergenerational connections. Dr. Johnson is currently collaborating with the King Center on their curriculum and global initiatives for youth development and empowerment. She is a course facilitator in the Harvard Graduate School of Education for their online courses in the Certificate of Advanced Educational Leadership. With a passion for helping students learn through experiences, Dr. Johnson’s research interests are focused on creativity, innovation and experiential learning. She serves as a course facilitator for the Academy, the learning platform for the National Head Start Association. Dr Johnson denotes that hands-on experiences are critical for overall student learning and success. She collaborates with organizations such as Save the Children International, Title 1 Federal programs, National Head Start and Character education organizations where her students design, develop and implement strategies, learning guides and evaluations for use in their programming. Her students have gained experiences working with global leadership groups and nonprofits. She encourages her students to examine their own self-identity and self-determination through lived experiences and storytelling. These areas of work and collaboration drive her passion for helping facilitators /educators engage their students while making learning fun! Dr. Johnson is a board member of Operation Round Up, a foundation that supports local non-profits and educational entities. She is also a board member of Home Again Foundation, a program that focuses on societal challenges to include homelessness. | |
Research InterestsDr. Johnson's research interests include information on how to create more positive reinforcement within the classroom and in out of school time settings. Aligning with the pedagogical research of Urie Bronfenbrenner and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Dr. Johnson focuses on how creativity can set the foundation for more positive interactions and experiential opportunities in youth serving settings.
