Profile

Dr. Crandall is a medical sociologist, health services researcher, and social epidemiologist who was trained as a United States Public Health Service Fellow at Purdue University’s Health Services Research and Training Program. He is currently Professor of Public Health Sciences. He served as Department Chair from July 2007 until June 2014. He previously served as a faculty member and Associate Chair at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (2000-2007), as Professor and Head at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1994-2000) and as a Professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine (1976-94). His teaching interests include research methods, survey design, ethical issues in public health, substance abuse epidemiology, and the development of training related to the interface of bioethics and health policy. He has served as a peer reviewer for the National Institutes of Health, as a member of the Florida Substance Abuse Prevention Advisory Council and serves as a consultant to the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association.

Research Interests

Dr. Crandall's research focuses on access to and quality of health and disability services, particularly for rural and minority populations and on the epidemiology of behavioral health problems and evaluation of prevention and treatment programs.
