Profile

Dr. Veronica G. Parker is an Alumni Distinguished Professor at Clemson University, College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences, School of Nursing. Dr. Parker is also the Director of the Center for Research on Health Disparities, and a CUSHR Faculty Scholar. She earned a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the Medical University of South Carolina, a BS in Engineering Analysis (concentration in Bioengineering) from Clemson University, and a BS in Physics-Engineering from the College of Charleston. She is currently a member of the Advisory Committee on Minority Health, US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health. Dr. Parker teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs at Clemson, in the areas of nursing research, clinical epidemiology, and research analysis (statistics). Dr. Parker has expertise in the areas of categorical data analysis, path analyses, statistical analysis of survey and chronic disease registry data, and big data analytics (to name a few). Dr. Parker has secured over $10 million in collaborative internal and external research funding thus far at Clemson. Dr. Parker’s current research interests are in the areas of health disparities/health equity, quality of life and well-being, resilience, spirituality, and health risk behaviors in vulnerable and underserved populations.

Research Interests

My current research interests are in the areas of health disparities/health equity, quality of life and well-being, resilience, spirituality, eustress, and health risk behaviors in vulnerable and underserved populations. I have expertise in the areas of categorical data analysis, path analyses, statistical analysis of survey and chronic disease registry data, and big data analytics (to name a few). I have served as biostatistician on a number of funded projects, and have been a PI or Co-I on several previously funded grants addressing recruitment/retention of underrepresented minorities in research. I have been involved in asset mapping of community resources in rural racial/ethnic minority communities in SC, and in health-related program evaluations. At Clemson University, I am Director of the Center for Research on Health Disparities, an Alumni Distinguished Professor, and a CUSHR Faculty Scholar.
