Flexo Foundations Seminar
Overview
This one-and-a-half-day seminar introduces flexography and is suitable for anyone in the flexo industry, from sales to customer service, administration and marketing. Content covers the history of flexography, an overview of the flexographic market, the flexographic printing process, substrate and ink options, color and design considerations, and more. It includes a mix of classroom learning with afternoon breakout sessions, allowing attendees to see first-hand how the flexographic process works. Breakouts will take place on a seven-station, narrow-web, flexographic press. At the conclusion of the seminar, take the test to receive your FTA FIRST Individual Certification - Level I Certificate of Completion.

9:15 a.m. - Flexography Introduction and History: An overview of the evolution of flexographic printing, its key markets and the basic characteristics of flexography printing.
10 a.m. - Printing 101: Printing terminology, other printing processes and how they compare with flexography.
10:30 a.m. - Break
10:40 a.m. - Flexographic Markets: A look at the various flexographic markets: flexible packaging, folding carton, corrugated, multi-wall bag, tag and label and others, along with the differences in presses used for each.
12 p.m. - Lunch
1 p.m. - Flexographic Press In-Depth: A deeper look at the components of a flexographic press.
2:15 p.m. - Tour of the Sonoco Institute
2:45 p.m. - Hands-on Flexographic Platemaking and Flexo Press Overview: A brief overview of digital platemaking and mounting.
3:15 p.m. - Hands-on OMET Varyflex 7-Color Narrow Web Press: Explore the setup and operation of a narrow-web flexographic press.
4 p.m. - End of Day
Day 2
9 a.m. - Inks and substrates: An exploration of the different types of flexographic ink, as well as substrates suitable for flexography printing.
9:40 a.m. - Converting and miscellaneous topics: A brief overview of converting operations associated with flexography, as well as health and safety considerations.
10:15 a.m. - Break
10:30 a.m. - Next Steps with FIRST Certification: Overview of additional FIRST training opportunities.
12 p.m. - Lunch
1 p.m. - FIRST Level I Certification Test
2 p.m. - Presentation of Certificates and adjourn
