Transportation to and Around Clemson University

Planning your journey to and around Clemson is essential for a smooth experience. Here's a guide to help you navigate your travels.

Arriving in the U.S. and Traveling to Clemson Main Campus

Clemson University is located in upstate South Carolina, between Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Travel to the U.S.

  • F and J visa holders should plan to arrive in the U.S. within 30 days of their program start date.
  • Always carry your passport with a valid F or J student visa in your carry-on luggage when entering the U.S.
  • Present the visa for your Clemson program of study to the Customs and Border Patrol agent.
  • For travel emergencies, contact Clemson University's Office of Public Safety at (864) 656-2222 to reach on-call emergency staff.

Travel by Air

  • Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) is the nearest international airport, approximately 45 minutes from Clemson's campus.
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) are other regional international airports, about5 hours from campus. International flights may sometimes be cheaper through CLT or ATL.

Transportation from Airports to Campus

Once you arrive in the U.S., several options are available to students traveling to our campus.

  • Clemson University Tiger Transit Holiday Airport Shuttle: This free service provides students with transportation to and from the Clemson campus to GSP and CLT during University breaks and before the start of each semester. Reservation information is listed below.
  • Additional Airport Shuttle Options: If Clemson University's Tiger Transit Airport Shuttle doesn't fit your needs, consider these services:
    • Airport Shuttle of Clemson: 800-669-6463
    • Gibbs Transportation Services, LLC: 888-732-5550
    • Atchison Transportation Services: 864-595-1234
  • Other Options: Shuttle, taxi and rental car services are available, often with fees (some cash only) and requiring reservations.
  • Reserve a Shuttle
    1. Create or sign into your account on clemsonbus.com using your Clemson University email address (your Clemson username @clemson.edu).
      Note: you may NOT use your @g.clemson.edu address.
    2. Browse the shuttle options and click "Reserve" on the shuttle of your choice.
      Note: You may only sign up for one arriving shuttle.
    3. Enter your flight departure or arrival time in the notes.
  • Delayed Flights
    If your flight is delayed, please call, text or message Tiger Transit to notify the driver.

    • For a delayed flight over 30 minutes, you must make alternate transportation arrangements or reserve a seat on the next shuttle.
  • Canceling a Reservation

    Follow these steps if you need to cancel your reservation:

    1. Click "Reserved" on the shuttle posting.
    2. Click "Edit Reservation."
    3. Select "Cancel."

    Confirm your cancellation.

Transportation in Clemson

Clemson Area Transit Bus (CATbus)

  • The easiest way to get around campus and the surrounding areas is by riding the Clemson Area Transit
  • Always free, the CATbus has on-campus routes and routes through Clemson, Anderson, Pendleton, Seneca and Central.

Tiger Commute and Tiger Connection

For travel between Clemson University and Greenville, the Clemson-Greenville Connection is the best option. This service operates Monday through Friday with two 30-passenger buses equipped with free Wi-Fi and bicycle racks, with service connecting:

  • Clemson University East Library Circle on Clemson's main campus
  • The Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR), which is a park-and-ride hub and transfer location for the Tiger Commute and Tiger Connect Routes
  • Clemson University Biomedical Engineering Innovation Campus at the GHS Patewood campus (CUBEInC)
  • Clemson at the Falls
  • University Center at Greenville
