Areas of Research

Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics

Professor Marler's group performs experimental investigations into the properties and interactions of atomic and molecular ions trapped in rf-Paul traps and laser cooled to mK temperatures. We are focused on understanding the chemistry of ion - neutral interactions at low temperatures. The group also studies the properties and interactions of highly charged ions. Specifically we are investigating charge exchange between highly charged ions and neutrals of relevance to astrophysical phenomena.
