Profile

Dr. Frances L. Edwards, J.D. is an Associate Professor of Legal Studies at Clemson University, coming to Clemson from Texas A&M University where she was an assistant professor. Before entering a university career, she worked in the negotiation of contracts, leases and joint operation agreements for ARCO Oil and Gas Company. Professor Edwards has also worked two years in Tokyo, Japan before entering law school; organized the first study abroad programs in Asia as a faculty member of the Texas A&M's College of Business; has been an Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of three private international companies; and has conducted business in over 11 foreign countries. She spent four years in Italy as the Associate Director of the CIMBA Italian Program, assisting in the program's organization as well as teaching graduate courses. She has a language proficiency in Italian and a working knowledge French and Japanese. In addition to her teaching and research activities, she has organized and was director of her college's Office of International Affairs. Her research emphasis is primarily in international contracts and business practices, and her teaching activities have included a number of courses, one of which is The Legal Environment of Business at both the undergraduate and MBA level, using the text on which she is a co-author, The Legal Environment of Business, now in its 13th Edition.
