Plan of Study
Master of Architecture
The required course study of the Architecture + Health Curriculum consists of two and three year tracks, both with an option for comprehensive or thesis projects.The first year of the three-year track is within Clemson's general architecture program, this year allows students without an architectural background to receive core architectural knowledge before their two years within the Architecture + Health studio. This first year also gives opportunities for new students to study abroad.
The two-year track is based in Clemson, SC and places students with an undergraduate degree in architecture directly into the Architecture + Health studio.
Master of Science in Architecture
The Master of Science [MS] in Architecture + Health offers the opportunity to undertake focused research and scholarship responsive to increasingly complex challenges associated with healthcare architecture, and relationships between health and the built environment at multiple scales. The Master of Science degree is not a professional degree that will satisfy licensure requirements. However, it is excellent preparation for the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Planning, Design, and the Built Environment (PDBE), and may be well suited to US and international students holding a professional degree in architecture (B. Arch. or M. Arch.) and seeking to develop a focused area of knowledge in Architecture + Health, initiate an academic career, or pursue a focused and individually determined plan of study and research related to a specific relationship between architecture and health.Requirements for the MS degree consist of 24 credit hours of coursework and directed studies, and a minimum of 6 credit hours of thesis work, which will take a minimum of one year to complete at 15 credit hours per semester. MS Students within Architecture + Health program work closely with M.Arch students in many classes and are expected to take the same required seminar courses in the concentration: ARCH 685, ARCH 688, ARCH 886, HLTH 600, and ARCH 821. Students work closely with a Major Advisor and an Advisory Committee, with whom they determine an individual Plan of Study. The advisors periodically review the student's work and evaluate the research thesis.
Admission is based on previous academic credentials, GRE scores, TOEFL or IELTS scores (for international students), a design portfolio, and a detailed statement of purpose and intent. Since MS students work closely with a major advisor, they are most likely to be admitted if they have identified a potential advisor and discussed a possible plan of study with a faculty member in advance of their application. Faculty members are limited in the number of MS students whom they can advise, so admission may be limited and competitive.
Ph.D. in Planning, Design and the Built Environment (PDBE) - Built Environment + Health Concentration
The School of Architecture’s Graduate Program is affiliated with Clemson University’s interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Planning, Design and the Built Environment (PDBE).The Architecture + Health program is integrated with the PDBE Built Environment + Health concentration. Architecture + Health professors Dina Battisto, PhD, and Anjali Joseph, Ph.D. serve as major advisers in the BE+H concentration.
The primary aim of the Built Environment and Health concentration area is to generate new knowledge and theories that demonstrate how human health and well-being may be improved through design. As such, this concentration area builds upon an evidence-based design philosophy where innovative architectural designs are measured using various performance metrics in an effort to produce a knowledge base that can be used to inform future design interventions. Through a specialized interdisciplinary curriculum, students will be prepared for a professional career in research, teaching, and other specialized fields that may advance theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge related to design for health.

Facilities
The Studio
The studio space of the Architecture + Health program is located in 104 Lee hall. The studio was renovated in the Fall of 2010, bringing a healthy and modern space to both students and faculty. New features from the renovation include operable windows, access to the exterior balcony, comfortable lighting, new workstations/computers, a simple kitchen, and an advanced media center. Keeping with our ethos of healthy and creative collaboration, the studio of the MA students is adjacent to the MS/P.h.D students and the research lab.

Clemson Design Center in Charleston
The CDC.C has an Architecture + Health studio as a part of fluid campus. The facility has its own woodshop, plotters, review spaces, as well as space used for full scale mock-ups of fall studio designs.

A+H Summer Study Abroad
