Employee Permits

All employees parking a car on campus are required to purchase a permit. You will need the license plate number, make, model, color and year of your vehicle(s). With a few exceptions, faculty and staff will not receive repositionable decals to stick on the windshield. Regular employee and Park-N-Ride permits will be virtual. Your vehicle license plate will be your permit. 

Because your license plate is your permit, you are asked to park your vehicle with the license plate clearly visible. 

LEV, EV, ELT, carpool, retirees and emeritus will still receive a decal.

Employee Virtual Permit Rates 

Employee virtual permit rates are based according to salary. The FY24 rates are as follows:  

  • Up to $30,000.00 — $24*/year
  • $30,000.01-$50,000.00 — $83*/year
  • $50,000.01-$70,000.00 — $160*/year
  • $70,000.01-$90,000.00 — $207*/year
  • $90,000.01-$125,000.00 — $252*/year
  • $125,000.01-$150,000.00 — $264*/year
  • $150,000.01-$175,000.00 — $280*/year
  • $175,000.01-$200,000.00 — $293*/year
  • $200,000.01 and over — $470*/year

Electric Vehicle permits have a $26 surcharge added to the permit price.

Payment Options

Payments for permits are only available online. Go to clemson.edu/parking and click on “Manage My Account” to manage your parking account and pay one of two ways: 

  • Payroll Deduction:
    • If you are currently enrolled, select “online payroll deduction” as your payment type. 
    • If you are currently not enrolled in payroll deduction and would like to join, select “online payroll deduction” as your payment type, print the pre-tax parking benefit election/change form and return the completed form directly to Parking and Transportation Services located on the ground level of the University Union or email it to parking@clemson.edu for processing.
  • Debit or Credit Card:
    • Pay with Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.

Returning an Annual Permit 

If you wish to return your parking permit for a prorated refund, you may do so at Parking and Transportation Services. 

  1. If you have a physical permit, bring your parking permit to Parking and Transportation Services. If you have a virtual permit, email parking@clemson.edu to process your return. 
  2. Complete the Payroll Deduction Termination Form (only if you are on payroll deduction). 
  3. Complete the Refund Request Form (only if you paid in full for your permit). Please note that the refund will not be immediate.

Employee Permit Rules and Regulations 

All parking regulations, including meters, are in effect. All employees are required to purchase a parking permit to park their vehicle on campus, including at meters. Read the parking rules and regulations to avoid citations.  

Only one vehicle linked to each permit can be on campus at a time. If you have not purchased a permit and your vehicle is found on campus, you may receive a citation. All past due citations must be paid before purchasing a parking permit.  

Important Notes 

  • To correctly identify your vehicle when parked, if you are not parallel parking, please pull into parking spaces so that your vehicle license plate is visible from the travel lane. Because the license plate is an employee’s parking permit, faculty and staff are asked to park their vehicles with the license plate clearly visible. 
  • Employees who cannot order a permit online (U.S. Forestry, Ricoh, Aramark, intermittent employees) need to bring their vehicle information (year, make, model, color and license plate) to our office to complete their parking permit application.

Notice to Users of Disability-Access Parking Permits 

Anyone who displays a state-issued disability parking permit to park on the campus of Clemson University is required to register the permit with the Parking and Transportation Services office prior to use on campus. Students, faculty, staff and vendors are required to purchase and display a campus parking permit even when displaying a disability-access parking permit. The request to register the state-issued permits prior to use is expected to reduce the incident of unauthorized use, thereby increasing availability of disability-access parking spaces by legitimate users. Employee Permit FAQ

  • How do I link my vehicle license plate to my parking permit?

    For Repositionable and Virtual Permits (Commuter, Employee, Park-N-Ride)

    Access your parking account by going to "Manage My Account" at the top of the PATS website. Select "View Your Permits." Select the permit you wish to add your vehicle to. Scroll down the page and select "Add Vehicle to Permit." You will see all the vehicles currently attached to your parking record but not linked to the permit you selected. You can select any of those vehicle if you still own and are responsible for it, or you may add an additional vehicle. You will need the Make, Model, Year, Color and License Plate of the vehicle you are adding.

    Link only vehicles that are owned and operated by you. You are responsible for any citations issued to your parking permit or vehicle(s) that are linked to your account. You are not permitted to link someone else's vehicle information to your account.

    All permits have a vehicle limit according to permit type. If you have reached the maximum number, and still need to make vehicle adjustments, you must contact Parking and Transportation Services for assistance via email with the year, make, model, color and license plate of the vehicle.

    If you are driving a rental car on campus using your personal permit, please contact Parking and Transportation Services.

  • How do I unlink a vehicle from my parking record?

    To view the current vehicles associated with your parking record, access your parking account by going to "Manage My Account" at the top of the PATS website. Select "Vehicles" at the top of the page. If you see any vehicles that you no longer own, please contact Parking and Transportation Services to remove them. You are responsible for any citations issued to your parking permit or vehicle(s) that are linked to your account. 

  • I have invited someone to visit who is driving to campus. Do they need a parking permit? If so, how do they get one?

    If your guest parks and pays a parking meter, no permit is required. For long-term parking, online parking permits are available. See the Visitor Parking page for more information on all the options. 

  • As an employee, what do I need to do when I drive a different vehicle to campus for a few days?

    If you have a current virtual permit for your vehicle and must temporarily drive another vehicle, you should add the vehicle and link the alternate license plate to your permit online. If you have any issues, contact the Parking and Transportation Services office.  

    Note: Only one registered vehicle can be on campus at a time to avoid citations. 

  • I have a new vehicle with a state-issued temporary license plate. How can I obtain a parking permit?

    Please purchase a permit online through Manage My Account. When adding the vehicle information, for the state, select the state that issued the temporary permit. For the license plate number, enter the alpha-numeric characters on the plate excluding dashes "-" and spaces. After you receive your permanent state-issued license plate, you will need to email parking@clemson.edu with the make, model, year, color and new license plate number. A customer service representative will update your vehicle's record and send you a confirmation when it has been updated. 

  • What do I need to do if I get a new car?

    If you are an employee with a virtual permit and are changing vehicles, you can add the vehicle to your account and link the license plate to your permit. 

  • Can I park in a visitor space as an employee?

    Visitor spaces are reserved for visitor use between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Employees can only park in visitor spaces from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. 

  • When does the time limit apply in timed spaces?

    The time limit is applicable between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. The time limit does not apply from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Stalls controlled by parking meters have the following time limits: 

    • Visitor stalls have a three-hour maximum or no maximum (see posted signs) from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. and free parking from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m.
    • Clemson University permit holder meter stalls have a one-hour, three-hour limit or no limit signs posted from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. and free parking from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m.

     

  • Are parking regulations still in effect after business offices close? Are parking regulations enforced differently between semesters and during holidays?

    Parking Regulations remain in effect at all times, including holidays, between semesters, and after business hours. After business hours, parking regulations provide for student parking in employee areas as follows: 

    • Student vehicles displaying a valid commuter parking permit are allowed to park in employee spaces (except those posted as "reserved for employees 24 hours") from 4:30 p.m. until 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 4:30 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Monday. 
    • Vehicles displaying one of the valid resident parking permits are allowed to park in the following employee spaces from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m.: 
      • Employee Lot E-05, north of the Motor Pool; 
      • Employee Lot E-04, west of Sirrine Hall; 
      • Employee Lot E-01, east of Newman Hall; and 
      • Employee spaces on Cherry Road between the intersection of Highway SC 93 and McMillan Road intersection. 
    • Vehicles displaying one of the valid resident parking permits are also allowed to park in employee spaces (except spaces posted as "reserved for employee 24 hours") from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 4:30 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Monday. 
  • Where can I park to load/unload?

    Metered spaces are strategically located throughout campus or you can come to Parking & Transportation Services and receive a one-hour Loading/Unloading zone permit. Meters must be paid to park. You may obtain temporary permission after business hours from the University Police Department by calling 864-656-2222.
