Plant Sale
Our nursery is an integral part of the Garden. The nursery grows high-quality plants to support both the gardens and, in turn, the public community. Visits to the nursery can be made via appointment by contacting Misty Shealy, Nursery Manager, at scbgnursery@clemson.edu.
The nursery hosts the Garden's Semiannual Plant Sales (typically in April and September or October), which are major fundraising events for the SCBG, and all profits support operations and enhancements in the garden. Friends of the Garden are granted early access to both sales, typically the day before the public sale. The sales are held in the operations section of the SCBG, which is located at 154 Lacecap Loop off Perimeter Road in Clemson, South Carolina. Friends of the Garden membership applications will be available at the sales or avoid the line by joining the membership online.
SCBG volunteers and garden staff work very hard preparing for these events. Many selections of a wide variety of plants are always available, such as annuals, vegetable transplants and herbs, bog plants, perennials, ferns, shrubs, grasses, trees and fruits and many hard-to-find native plants. The majority of the plants at the sales are produced in the nursery, and many selections are propagated from the SCBG plant collection. A catalog of plant materials is online approximately 2 weeks before the sale. Print catalogs will also be available at the gate.
SCBG staff, volunteers, and Clemson University students are always on hand at the plant sales to assist with the selection of plants for your home landscape. Several of our partner organizations set up booths at the sale to answer questions about gardening-related topics and activities. To find out who will be here this year, check the catalog. Thanks for supporting the SCBG! We thank you in advance for your patience as we work on the safest, most efficient ways to bring you unique and exciting plant selections. Please see our FAQs below to help answer your questions about the sale.
- This is my first time attending the SCBG Plant Sale fundraiser. What do I do?
- Arrive at any Garden entrance and follow the signs to the Nursery
- Park outside the gate where volunteers will direct parking
- Come in and start shopping!
- There are a limited number of carts available, but you are welcome to bring your own.
- The Checkout Tents will gladly hold your purchases while you continue to shop.
- When you are finished shopping, the Checkout Tent will give you a ticket to take to the cashier
- Drive your car to the Checkout Tent and volunteers will load your plants for you
- What forms of payment are accepted?
The cashier will accept cash, check and credit cards.
- Can I bring my dog?
Pets are welcome but must be on a leash. Please visit the Dogs in the garden page for the city of Clemson and SCBG’s pet policies.
- Can I call in my order and have it delivered?
At this time we do not have the resources to accept call-in orders and/or deliver orders.
- How do I get more specific information about the plants that are offered?
