CPT Athena Mac Lain commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from Clemson University in 2019. Following graduation from the Signal Corps Basic Officer Leadership Course, she was assigned to the 67th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, Fort Eisenhower, GA, from January 2020 through July 2021 where she served as a Platoon Leader, and an Executive Officer. CPT Mac Lain then moved to the 8th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC from July 2021 through September 2023 where she served as an Executive Officer and Detachment Commander. She deployed to the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility in 2022 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. After Graduating from the Army Special Operations Forces Captains Career Course, she remained at Fort Bragg where she served as the 3rd Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne)'s Battalion S-6 Officer until July 2025.
CPT Mac Lain has attended the U.S. Army Airborne School and Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE) School.
CPT Mac Lain has been married to her husband Ryan since 2019 and together they have a son, Carson, that was born in 2024.
