Haley Hutto Gandy grew up on the Florida Gulf Coast, where she was surrounded by ventures whose goals extended beyond economic performance. These ventures often centered on sustaining families, communities, and ways of life. These experiences inspired her research, which examines how entrepreneurs navigate the tensions that arise when pursuing objectives beyond economic performance. Through interviews and fieldwork, her research allows her to learn directly from entrepreneurs and experience the diverse settings in which entrepreneurship unfolds, from the fishing industry to street performers to Amish entrepreneurs. Her connection to entrepreneurship also extends beyond academia through a boat rental company in Orange Beach, Alabama. She brings both the stories and perspectives she encounters through her research and her own practical experience with entrepreneurship into the classroom.
