Profile

Major Ian W. Fields is an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies, Detachment 770, Clemson University, South Carolina. He is responsible for recruiting, training, and educating Air Force officer candidates at Clemson University and four partnered universities.
Major Fields received his commission through ROTC Detachment 770 at Clemson University and entered the Air Force in January 2011. He completed Undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training in December 2012, and has since flown operations in 5 different Geographic Combatant Commands and has had multiple flying assignments including an overseas assignment to Japan and a staff assignment at Headquarters 16th Air Force. He has taken part in multinational training exercises REDFLAG, ULCHI FREEDOM GUARDIAN, NORTHERN EDGE, and various CENTCOM air and missile defense exercises as well as having deployed in support of OPERATIONS ENDURING FREEDOM, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, INHERENT RESOLVE, and SPARTAN SHIELD. Prior to his current position, he was the Chief of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Operations for 16th Air Force at Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland.
Major Fields is a Senior Combat Systems Officer with over 1,600 flight hours including 248 combat hours.
