Forest Rules

Regulations for Recreational Use of the Clemson Experimental Forest

Clemson University owns and manages the Clemson Experimental Forest. Its primary purpose is teaching, research and public education. Recreational use is allowed under the following conditions:

  1. All activities should be conducted in such a way as to retain the quality of the resource.

  2. No fires, except in structures provided and as allowed by law. Extinguish fires before leaving.

  3. Hunting and fishing activity occurs on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) as regulated by SC DNR only.

  4. No littering, dumping or defacing of property.

  5. Hiking, horseback riding and biking on designated roads and trails only.

  6. No diving, swimming or sliding from, on or around Issaqueena Dam and other hazards.

  7. No camping unless under an authorized program of the University.

  8. No motorized vehicles unless where designated. Speed limit is 15 mph.

  9. Watercraft on Lake Issaqueena shall not exceed 5 mph.

  10. Dogs must be under the demonstrable control of the owner.

  11. No trespassing on areas designated closed by signs, barricades or media.

  12. No trespassing at barns, feed lots, pastures or cultivated fields.

  13. No power tools, unless as authorized for volunteer activities.

  14. No approaching forestry or other equipment.

  15. Respect research, teaching and other educational activities.

  16. No possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages.

  17. No destruction or removal of natural, cultural or historical material.

  18. The Issaqueena Lake Road is closed between November 1 and March 15, or as needed.

  19. Users are responsible for the safety of their person and property.

Clemson Experimental Forest is under the jurisdiction of State, County, City, and University law enforcement. All applicable laws and Clemson University policies apply. Contact authorities to report violations.
