First-Year Residents Parking Program Medical Exception
Medical Exception Documentation Requirements
To be considered for a medical exception from the first-year personal vehicle program, students must submit documentation from a licensed healthcare provider. The documentation must be current, legible, and include the provider’s credentials, contact information, and signature.
The healthcare provider must address at least one of the following criteria:
- Inability to Use Alternative Transportation The provider must clearly explain why the student is medically unable to utilize available transportation options, such as the university bus system or rideshare services (e.g., Uber/Lyft). This explanation should identify the specific medical condition or functional limitation impacting transportation use.
- The provider should describe how the condition interferes with the student’s ability to safely or consistently access these services.
OR
- Recurring Medical Appointments The provider must verify that the student has frequent, ongoing medical appointments that require access to off-campus healthcare services not accessible via campus transportation. Documentation must include: The frequency of appointments (e.g., weekly, biweekly, monthly)
- The location of the appointments
- The expected duration of treatment within the current academic semester
Additional Notes:
- Documentation that only states a diagnosis, general need for transportation, or a preference for having a vehicle is not sufficient.
- Requests based solely on convenience or general well-being (e.g., reducing stress or anxiety without a documented transportation barrier) do not meet exception criteria.
- The university may request additional information if clarification is needed.
