Keeping a Watchful Eye on Clemson University

The Physical Security Operations Center (PSOC) is a centralized location for monitoring, detecting and responding to campus security issues and incidents. PSOC is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Security Specialists, who monitor video surveillance resources, aid criminal investigations by conducting forensic searches of video and access control resources, and provide real-time situational awareness to Police, Fire and EMS.

Student Opportunities

Physical Security also offers different opportunities for students to join the department as student assistants or through a UPIC internship.

  • Physical Security Student Assistants

Physical Security Assistants patrol housing areas at night, helping ensure that doors are working correctly and remain locked. They report lighting issues so that those issues can be addressed. While on these patrols, student employees serve as eyes and ears for CUPD, being available on campus to report emergencies should they arise. If you are interested in helping keep campus safe and are looking for a part-time job, fill out an application at the link below.

  • UPIC Internships

CUPD employs student interns through the University Professional Internship and Co-op (UPIC) program. Each semester, interns assist with Physical Security operations in a more expanded format with additional responsibilities. UPIC interns assist with our night-time, environmental security, as well as working to assist in the Physical Security Operations Center (PSOC) at various times of day and night. This is both an experiential learning and earning opportunity, as well as a first-hand contribution to a variety of safety-related functions.

If you are interested in a UPIC internship with CUPD, contact the UPIC office or call 864-656-0282 or 864-656-9949.
