Course Fee & Structure
Course Fee & Structure
- Advance Registration: $110 (available through February 27)
- Regular Registration: $135 (February 28 - March 8)
The course fee includes access to the online course and registration materials, which will be mailed to the address you provide during registration. The course is ungraded. You must complete each module, including a quiz-like feature called Measure Up. All participants who successfully complete the course will receive a digital Certificate of Completion. Those that complete all the modules and earn at least 80% on each Measure Up will receive a digital badge. The Carolina Yards badge is a digital credential that helps convey your knowledge and passion for environmentally friendly landscaping. It can be included in your email signature or resume or shared to social media destinations such as Linkedin, Facebook, and Twitter. Participants who complete the required number of actions on the Carolina Yards Scorecard will also receive a certificate recognizing their yard as an official “Carolina Yard.”
In this course, there is a welcome module, 12 content modules based on the 12 Carolina Yards principles, and a conclusion. Each module is comprised of a series of pages. A page may be a presentation, a video, a reading, or an activity. You must progress through each module in order, but you can do so at your own pace. Since the class is asynchronous, you may log in to complete course work whenever it is convenient.
Two modules will be released each week and will remain accessible for the remainder of the course allowing you to set your own schedule. Week 4 is a time to get caught up so no new modules are released. The last new content is released on Week 8 and you have 2 additional weeks to finish any outstanding work. The online portion of each module may take 1-4 hours to complete, depending on your pace and personal interest in each topic. The time it will take you to complete the yard actions will vary depending on which activities and how many you choose to complete. For example, the time it may take you to install a rain barrel will be different from from the time it may take to identify native plants in your yard or to create a compost pile. The course is un-graded and does not require you to perform any actions in your yard. However, we hope that in learning more about environmentally friendly landscaping, you will be inspired to take action in your yard.
