Certified volunteer approval (steps listed below) is a rigorous process to ensure the safety of our youth for those volunteers that take on a temporary custodial role. Opportunities also exist for those seeking a non-custodial role.

Required New 4-H Certified Volunteer Steps:

  • Submit two character references via the volunteer reference form
  • Complete training of operating standards for youth programs with the 4-H agent
  • Create a profile in 4-H Online
  • Approve and pass a Criminal Background check and Sex Offender Registry check
    • Renewed every 4 years
  • Approve and pass a Driver’s License check
  • Sign and abide by Clemson’s Standards of Behavior
  • Complete AAA Defensive Driver training (if transporting youth)
    • Renewed every 3 years 

Annual Certified Volunteer Renewal Steps:

  • Approve and pass a Driver’s License check
  • Complete a Disclosure Statement
  • Update other paperwork as needed
