Tania Houjeiry

Dr. Houjeiry is a senior lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Clemson;  she joined our Department in August 2013.  She teaches General Chemistry I and II (CH1010 & CH1020), Organic Chemistry I and II (CH2230 & CH2240), Survey of Organic Chemistry (CH2010) and Chemistry Capstone (CH4500).

      Dr. Houjeiry was born and raised in Lebanon.  In 2003 she received her B.S. degree in Chemistry from the Lebanese University then joined the American University of Beirut (A.U.B.) to pursue her Master's degree under the supervision of Prof. Tarek Ghaddar in Fall 2003.  During the academic years of 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, Dr. Houjeiry worked as a high school chemistry teacher in Beirut - Lebanon.
      In 2007, Dr. Houjeiry moved to the United States where she joined the research group of Prof. D. Tyler McQuade at Florida State University.  During Fall 2010, she worked at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at University of West Florida as a visiting adjunct professor.  Dr. Houjeiry defended her dissertation titled "A Journey in Research and Teaching:  From Studying the Synthesis of Chiral 2-Substituted 4-Cyclohexenones to Applying the Seven Principles for Good Practice in Teaching Undergraduate Organic Chemistry" and graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemisty in Fall 2012.  During  her graduate studies, Dr. Houjeiry was yearly nominated for FSU outstanding teaching assistant award, she won an award for outstanding research presentation in 2010, and an award for outstanding organic recitation teaching assistant in 2012.  Dr. Houjeiry published three scientific articles, and presented her work at Florida Annual Meeting Exhibition (FAME).
