AI Vision and Goals

Our Approach: People and Principles First

Our approach to artificial intelligence is built upon the University's commitment to putting humans at the center. Artificial intelligence is not a substitute for human thinking and decision-making. Our integration and implementation are guided by three clear principles: responsible use, data security and sustainable adoption.

Responsible and ethical use: Provide clear expectations for academic integrity, appropriate use and engagement with AI.

Data privacy and security: Protect student and institutional data by operating through approved tools and guidelines.

Sustainable and adaptable adoption: Build a practical model that can support broader institutional efforts over time in a dynamic and evolving AI landscape.

Our Vision and Goals

Empowered Student Experience

AI will be used thoughtfully to enhance student learning and success. By streamlining routine workflows, faculty and staff will focus more on meaningful relationships and interactions, along with equipping students with the ethical integration of AI for smarter study practices and subject mastery.

Elevated learning frameworks

Faculty will bring AI into real projects and case studies so students can practice applying it in real situations rather than just reading about how to apply it. Ethical use frameworks will be applied directly in coursework, AI-integrated assignments and case studies.

Expanding industry partnerships

Education is aligned with the pace of real-world innovation. The College partners with employers to make sure the skills students build match what companies expect. Business challenges are sourced directly from industry partners, employer panels and AI-focused career workshops, providing exposure to how AI is used within leading organizations.

Strategic Outcomes

Prepared graduates: Students will graduate equipped to use AI responsibly and effectively, aligned with employer expectations and ethical standards.

Enhanced faculty and staff effectiveness: Integrate AI to reduce administrative burden, improve workflows and allow greater focus on teaching, research and student engagement.

Institutional leadership: Inform broader University efforts by providing a practical, scalable model for AI adoption in business education.

Transform Teaching, Research and Service

AI can extend faculty expertise without replacing scholarly judgment. Our goal is to build practical ways for faculty to experiment responsibly, strengthen learning and accelerate discovery to transform teaching, research and service.

Guiding Principles for AI Adoption

Create richer learning experiences

Use AI to develop examples, cases, practice activities and early drafts of feedback. Faculty set the learning goals, explain where AI is appropriate and make the final academic decisions.

Accelerate inquiry and discovery

Explore data, organize evidence, test ideas, support coding and communicate findings more effectively while protecting data and validating methods, sources and conclusions. Develop Interdisciplinary and industry partnerships to help connect discovery to societal needs.

Extend expertise and impact

Prepare outreach materials, translate research for new audiences and strengthen collaboration with students, colleagues, industry and communities across South Carolina.
