Joseph D. Velez was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended the U.S. Army ROTC Program at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia and commissioned on May 2012 as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery Branch. Joe completed the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in November 2012. He was then assigned to the 2-319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment Battalion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Joe served as a Battery Fire Direction Officer in Alpha Battery, then was attached to 2-325th Airborne Infantry Regiment Battalion and served as a Fire Support Officer in Charlie Company. Joe was then assigned to the 37th Brigade Engineer Battalion and served as the Signal Company Executive Officer and Battalion Communications Officer. After serving his branch detail obligation, Joe became an officer in the Signal Corps. Upon completion of the Signal Captain's Career Course in June 2016, Joe was assigned to 2-32nd Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and served as the Battalion Communications Officer. Prior to Joe's arrival to Clemson University, he was stationed at Camp Humphreys, South Korea where he served as a 41st Signal Battalion Assistant Plans Officer and Company Commander for the Area 3 Local Network Enterprise Center.
