MSG Shawn K. Oakes, born out of Sacramento, California, Enlisted in the Army October 2002, completed Combat Engineer one station unit training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Airborne school prior to his first assignment to 82nd Airborne Division Fort Bragg, North Carolina. MSG Oakes military leadership assignments include, team leader, squad leader, platoon sergeant, drill sergeant, operations sergeant, intelligence sergeant and first sergeant. He has served 18 years across five garrison installations, with four deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to Operation New Dawn and one Atlantic Resolve Europe Rotation. His prior units of assignment are, Charlie and Alpha Company, of 307th Engineer Battalion and 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. 591st Sapper Engineer Company, 326th Engineer Battalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Echo Company, 701st Military Police Training Battalion and Bravo, 35th Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Alpha Company and Headquarters Company, 65th Brigade Engineer Battalion, Scholfield Barracks, Hawaii. Alpha Company, then Headquarter Company, 1st Brigade Engineer Battalion, Fort Riley, Kansas. To his present assignment as the Senior Military Instructor for Clemson University, South Carolina.
