Tanya L. Staton is a Public Health Sciences lecturer. She has served as an adjunct instructor for the last five years part-time at Tri-County Technical College. She recently transitioned from lecturer to facilitating an online medical terminology class. For the past 12 years, Staton worked full-time at an acute care facility, where she initially worked in the chemistry and hematology departments as a medical technologist testing blood and body fluids. She then transitioned to the facility’s infection prevention department, where she served for three years. In this role, Staton tracked and implemented programs to reduce multi-drug resistant organisms such as MRSA and VRE and led the hospital’s efforts to reduce rates of Clostridium difficile. Staton earned her master’s degree in public health from Concordia University and a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Clemson University. She has certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Medical Technologist. She recently earned her certification in Infection Prevention and Control through Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
