 Profile

Jeff Townsend is a graduate of the University of Illinois receiving his undergraduate degree in May 2004 and a Master’s degree in Recreation, Sport and Tourism with an emphasis in Sport Management in 2006. Prior to coming to Clemson, Townsend has spent time working in the athletic departments of both Brigham Young University and the University of Mississippi. In addition he has also worked as an accessibility specialist for the National Center on Accessibility, which is nationally renowned for their expertise and personalized technical assistance on a broad range of issues related to compliance with disability legislation and accessibility standards. Townsend has more than twenty five years of experience in adapted sport and recreation. During that time he has had the opportunity to travel all over the United States and the World playing and coaching younger players, including camps in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia, Spain, Mexico, Australia, and El Salvador. He also played wheelchair basketball professionally in Australia (2004) and Spain (2009).

 Research Interests

Research interests include social integration of individuals with a disability into society through sports and recreation as well as accessibility for individuals with a physical disability.
