Mechanical Engineering is arguably the broadest engineering degree that opens the door for advanced degrees in various engineering fields, including biomedical, environmental, industrial, automotive, aeronautical and nuclear engineering, and other professions, such as business law and medicine.

As Clemson’s largest undergraduate engineering program, the Mechanical Engineering program graduates more than 220 bachelor's students per year, with many choosing to pursue advanced degrees, taking positions in industry, government, or business. Here, you’ll learn how things work and how to make them work better by developing the skills to analyze, design and create the systems and technologies that shape everyday life.

Degree Programs

Bachelor of Science

The mechanical engineering curriculum prepares graduates for the challenges they can expect throughout their careers. It balances individual work and group activities, which span from student shop projects to industry co-ops, allowing students to develop the insights needed to work in our complex modern society.

B.S. Degree

Bachelor of Science - Honors

Senior departmental honors in mechanical engineering can be added to enhance the degree starting in the junior year. Advantages include an opportunity to pursue technical interests to a much greater depth and fostering a closer relationship between students and faculty through an in-depth research project.

Combined B.S./M.S.

Mechanical Engineering undergraduates may begin an M.S. degree program while completing their B.S. degree. This provides undergrads a head start on graduate studies by allowing them to use a limited number of graduate courses to satisfy requirements for both the B.S. and M.S. degrees.

Declare a Minor

Mechanical Engineering students can complete an academic minor to supplement the skills and knowledge acquired in their major degree program. Minor requirements vary; each minor requires at least 15 credit hours in the secondary discipline

CO-OP

The majority of our Mechanical Engineering students graduate with some work experience. Students in Mechanical Engineering have had great experiences at Robert Bosch, Duke Energy, BASF, Michelin, JR Automation Technologies, Arthrex, Inc., Itron, BMW, Boeing, Club Car, and BorgWarner.
