Clery Compliance

The Clemson University Police Department is responsible for Clemson University’s coordination and reporting compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act.

CUPD’s Director of Clery Compliance embarked on a full review of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFR) in 2025, developing an enhanced timeline for data collection, assessment, and publication. As part of this process, the ASFR was realigned and integrated into Policy Central with support from Clemson University’s Compliance and Ethics Office. Policy Central is a “living” repository housing Clemson University policies and key documents.

This transition supported enhanced review by multiple campus entities with reporting responsibilities and ensured that timelines were met and data was efficiently reviewed for entry. The change to this format for the ASFR ensures that the resource links contained within the annual publication always remain active and up to date when domains and URLs change. This project was among the first utilizations of this system University-wide, outside of the policy management function.

2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

CUPD prepares Clemson University's annual Security and Fire Safety Report to comply with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act.

In 2025, the Director of Clery Compliance worked alongside Public Safety’s Marketing and Communications representative to develop new standardized Timely Warning templates which supported timely review and assessment of campus community notices and ensured consistency in the reporting process. In conjunction with this project, streamlined documentation for Clery reportable offenses within CUPD’s records management system has enhanced our ability to effectively track and distribute information in 2025, further contributing to information sharing and collaboration with other University departments.

Throughout the year, the Director of Clery Compliance worked alongside other campus partners to increase training and improve reporting among Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) and Building Security Coordinators (BSCs). These efforts resulted in multiple training sessions conducted for individual departments along with ongoing training touchpoints for BSCs. This resulted in improved Clery reportability in systems utilized by other campus partners such the Office of Community and Ethical Standards and Title IX Office for tracking and documenting Clery reportable offenses

Stop Campus Hazing Act

As part of the work in response to the passing of the Stop Campus Hazing Act in December 2024, the Director of Clery Compliance served as a Co-Chair of the Hazing Prevention Committee and worked directly with senior campus leaders on developing policies and practices to ensure compliance with new requirements under this legislation. A Hazing Prevention Video featuring key student, staff, and faculty leaders from across the Clemson community was produced and released in 2025 along with the development and launch of a training video for CSAs which will be released in 2026.
