Title and Language

When multiple PDFs are open in Acrobat, readers can switch between documents by selecting their corresponding tab. The name of each tab is determined by a document’s title. (It’s a specific setting, separate from a document’s file name or heading.) A document’s language is used by screen readers to determine the correct pronunciation of content.

Review and update the document’s title and language:

  1. Select Menu (Windows) or File (Mac) > Properties to open the Document Properties dialog.
  2. In the Description tab, update the Title field.
  3. In the Advanced tab, update the Language field.
  4. Select OK.

Security Settings

Some security settings prevent PDF content from being copied or edited. These settings can interfere with screen readers. Ensure screen readers can access PDF content:

  1. Select Menu (Windows) or File (Mac) > Document properties.
  2. In the Security Method tab, update the Security Method value to No Security.
  3. Select OK.
