CCIT Leadership

The Division of Clemson Computing and Information Technology (CCIT) provides computing resources and information technology (IT) support across Clemson University. CCIT comprises functional areas that report to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). These areas include Internal Operations, Enterprise Systems and Applications, Office of Information Security, Research Computing and Data, Information Technology Customer Support Services, Network Services and Telecommunications, Infrastructure Operations, Technology Modernization, Medicaid Information Technology Services, Information Technology Strategic Planning and Operational Excellence. Ultimately, CCIT provides a secure, reliable, and robust information technology environment that enables the University to accomplish its mission and achieve its goals.

Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Brian D. Voss

Brian D. Voss was named Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) in February 2022, removing the previous interim status from his hire on May 18, 2021. Voss brings broad and deep experience across the spectrum of higher education information technology (IT), built through over 40 years of career achievements in IT leadership: strategic planning, user services, teaching and learning support, networks/ telecommunications, academic and research computing and enterprise-wide University information systems.

Internal Operations

Deputy CIO

CCIT’s Internal Operations group supports Clemson University and the Division of CCIT by providing services in contracts and licensing, finance and accounting, vendor management and procurement, human resources, project management, space planning, facilities management, service management, digital accessibility, organizational effectiveness and University assessment activities.


Information Security

John Hoyt

Associate Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer

The Office of Information Security (OIS) works across the entire institution to ensure that best practices are implemented to protect the data and infrastructure of Clemson University. OIS informs users of possible threats and supports personnel with the University’s computing resources, quickly disseminating recovery information so minimal downtime is experienced. OIS has tools to protect and mitigate issues across software and networks in the University’s ecosystem.


Enterprise Systems and Applications

The Enterprise Systems and Applications (ESA) group is responsible for providing services and support to enable and maximize the strategic use of Clemson University’s enterprise portfolio of information solutions in support of institutional goals and objectives. ESA staff leverage technologies, patterns, and best practices to design, implement, and optimize the portfolio of IT services and solutions necessary to support the University’s core administrative processes and information needs. This team supports customers’ shared visions of success by providing centralized and integrated enterprise services for enterprise architecture, custom business solution design and build, data integrations and identity management, data management and reporting, business workflow, enterprise resource planning solution support, quality management and IT review, and system administration and maintenance.


Research Computing and Data

Jill Gemmill, PhD

Associate Vice President, Research Computing and Data

The Research Computing and Data (RCD) group is responsible for the physical and human elements necessary to support Clemson’s world-class research portfolio through computation and data analytics. RCD provides training to faculty, staff and students in the essential use of advanced computing resources; assistance in installing, compiling, and running programs; and big data management and analysis. Consultations in parallelization, machine learning, software development, geospatial data collection and analysis, and system administration are available at no charge, and longer-term support can be provided via grants or other funding mechanisms.


Customer Services

CCIT’s Customer Support Services encompasses the service desk, call center, computer training, distributed support, hardware and laptop repair, Tiger Tech Shop, lab automation and management, classroom technologies, and application support.


Network Services and Telecommunications

Chris Hibbs

Associate Vice President

Network Services and Telecommunications support all voice, data and networking needs of the Clemson University community. The unit as a whole works together to ensure the stability of campus communications.


Infrastructure Services and Operations

Matt Garrett

Associate Vice President

Infrastructure Services and Operations (ISO) oversee the health and operation of Clemson’s computing infrastructure. This includes network and telecommunications, academic and administrative services, storage services, database services, business continuity/disaster recovery and physical computing facilities. ISO ensures that all end users can access and utilize Clemson’s core computing systems and functions.


Technology Modernization

The Office of Technology Modernization orchestrates efforts to address new technology infrastructure and shifts the University to an enterprise operating model. This Office also serves as the University’s cloud financial and human resources ERP implementation team.


Medicaid IT Services

Tom Taylor

Executive Director

Medicaid IT Services provides operational support for the Medicaid Eligibility Determination System (MEDS) and the Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in South Carolina. Services include application development and maintenance, quality assurance, project management, and business application support functions. This also includes infrastructure components supporting the DHHS systems.


IT Strategic Planning and Operational Excellence

Dustin Atkins

Director

This office is charged with developing and supporting the implementation of the CCIT strategic plan. This area oversees and manages the plan's operational implementation, helps set key targets and tracks and monitors the plan to drive results. Additionally, responsible for VPIT/CCIT initiatives for operational excellence, including assessment, reporting, and engagement in academic and student advisory functions.
