Email Phishing Incident
Phishing emails continue to be a common way for cybercriminals to attempt to obtain sensitive information by disguising themselves as a trustworthy source. It’s important that Clemson users remain watchful and take the appropriate actions. When you receive a suspicious email, the best way to avoid problems is knowing what to look for, report it, and then delete the email. Clicking on links from a phishing email or responding in any way can cause personal information (such as usernames and passwords) to be exposed.
Reporting Phishing Emails
Clemson University faculty, staff and students using Microsoft Outlook for email can now use the generic Report button to report phishing or junk emails. Reporting an email through this method will still send your email to the Clemson Security Operations Center (CSOC) for review and investigation. The Security Shield Report button has been removed from Outlook to help streamline this process.
But if you need to provide additional information beyond just reporting an email, use the Report Phishing Service through the TigerHub system.
Please contact the CCIT Support Center if you have any questions.
Mac users who don't see the Report button in Outlook
- For Mac users, if the Report button is missing from the Outlook top ribbon, look for the ellipsis (three dots) in the upper right-hand corner of the message window.
- Click the dots and select Customize Toolbar... (or Customize actions).
- Find the Report Message (or Report Phish / Phish Alert) icon and drag it directly to your main toolbar for quick access
As an alternative, you can also forward any suspicious email to phishing@clemson.edu.
