South Carolina Pest Tracker

Tracking Pests in South Carolina

Clemson Extension works year-round to monitor and manage pests that threaten South Carolina’s crops, landscapes and natural resources. Through timely updates and science-based recommendations, we help growers, land managers and residents respond quickly and effectively.

Current Focus: Fall Armyworms

Fall armyworms are a serious pest of turfgrass, forage crops and row crops across South Carolina. Outbreaks can cause significant damage in a short time, making early detection critical.

  • Identification: Caterpillars with a distinctive inverted “Y” on the head.

  • Damage: Rapid defoliation of turf and crops.

  • Action: Check fields regularly and follow Extension recommendations for treatment.
