Masters of Science

The master's degree in mechanical engineering is open to students with degrees in physics, applied mathematics, or any branch of engineering. Graduate students can expect to cover dynamic systems and controls, engineering design practice and methods, and the mechanics of materials to thermodynamics.

Masters of Science: Industry Track

For the M.S. non-thesis industrial track program, graduates develop valuable industry connections and experience while obtaining advanced technical, theoretical, and applied knowledge to solve complex problems. Students can earn their degree and participate in a full-time internship for up to 8-months – all in less than 2 years.

Doctor of Philosophy

Graduate degrees are technical degrees that build on a solid undergraduate background in mechanical engineering. Enrollment in the Ph.D. program is open to students with degrees in physics, applied mathematics, or any branch of engineering. Students with a B.S. degree but not an M.S. degree may apply directly to the Ph.D. program.

Graduate Certificates

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers several certificate programs designed to assist industry professionals and current students in charting their own career paths in the industry. Certificates can be completed in person or online, with the ability to stack certificates to earn a master's degree.

B.S./M.S. Combined Program

Undergraduates in engineering at Clemson may begin an M.S. degree program while completing their B.S. The combined program provides students a head-start on graduate studies by allowing them to use a limited number of graduate courses to satisfy requirements for both the B.S. and M.S. degrees.
