4-H School Enrichment Programs

4-H School Enrichment Programs: Groups of youth receiving a sequence of learning experiences in cooperation with school officials during school hours, to support the school curriculum. It involves direct teaching by Extension staff or trained volunteers, including teachers.

4-H School Aged Child Care Educational Programs: Educational programs offered to youth outside of school hours, usually in a school or other community center, and incorporating 4-H curricula.

**In-person programming is dependent on COVID-19 guidelines provided by Clemson University and the local schools.  As of August 2020, in-person programming is not available until January 2021.**

2020-2021 Laurens County 4-H School Enrichment Programs are sponsored by Laurens County Farm Bureau and the Laurens County Cattleman's Association.  Programs will be provided FREE of charge to teachers.  There are a limited number of kits available so be sure to reserve your spot today! 

In-School Programs

Laurens County 4-H currently offers the following programs to schools in Laurens County:

  • Character CrittersTeaching children about good character can be fun! Character Critters is a character education resource designed for early childhood educators and others who work with 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds.  It is a story and an activist approach to teaching good character.  In-person programming and virtual programming is available for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Intro to 4-H: 4-H offers youth many opportunities to explore our six program areas.  This program provides an introduction to each of our program areas through a hands-on learning activity.  Typically done with 1st grade.  A limited number of kits are available for FREE.  In-person programming, hybrid programming, and send home kits are available for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Chick Embryology: A 25-day project that teaches life cycles using eggs and incubators. Typically done with 2nd grade but is open to all grades. The cost of this project is dependent on what class option is selected. In-person programming and hybrid programming are available for the 2020-2021 school year.  To register your classroom please email asmccar@clemson.edu!  Reserve your spot EARLY!     • Available Dates (dependent on the availability of supplies):
      • Fall Dates can begin as early as September 8th
      • Spring Dates Coming Soon for the 2020-2021 school year.  In-person programming is only available in the spring. 
  • Healthy Habits: A monthly lesson on nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Includes snack.  Typically done with 3rd Grade, PE classes, and after school programs. 
  • *NEW* 4-H20 in the Classroom: Bring 4-H20 into your classroom! 4-H20 Classroom kits provide a hands-on science inquiry program that provides youth with knowledge about their local water resources. Kits will include activities related to the water cycle, watersheds, and water conservation.  Each individual kit is valued at $15.  A limited number of kits are available for FREE.  This program is typically done with 3rd grade. In-person programming, hybrid programming, and send home kits are available for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • *NEW* Journey to Mars: A 4-H Space Adventure: A series of lessons that focus on inquiry, decomposition, pattern recognition, and algorithm design on an age-appropriate level. Each individual kit is valued at $15.  A limited number of kits are available for FREE.  A kit includes a student manual and activity supplies. This program is typically done with 4th grade. In-person programming, hybrid programming, and send home kits are available for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Reading Makes Cents: A monthly lesson for 5th-grade students on budgeting, understanding money, etc. In-person programming and virtual programs are available for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Project Wet: A monthly lesson on natural resources and environmental sciences. This program is typically done with 5th grade.  More information coming soon! 
  • Animal Science - This program is typically done with 6th-8th grade.  More information coming soon! 
  • School Garden programs: Laurens County 4-H can assist with setting up a school garden and lead instruction using the Junior Master Gardener curriculum; teachers can also independently implement the School Gardening for SC Educators curriculum. *unavailable for the 2020-2021 school year*
  • One Time Lessons: We also offer one-time school enrichment programs to teachers as a supplement to what is currently being taught in the classroom.
