Ryan Ramey is a senior food science and technology major. He attained an internship with McCormick & Co as a regulatory analyst where he worked on creating customer support documents and performing internal audits.
How did you choose your major?
I switched majors from genetics after my freshman year because I felt more passionate about this major and was interested in the job opportunities in the field.
How did you attain the internship you had?
Paula Beecher sent out the link for the application, and I was interested so I submitted my resume. I went through three different rounds of phone/skype interviews and was offered the position not much later after the last interview.
What is the biggest lesson you took away from your internship?
Always ask questions and never be passive about them.
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to become a quality control manager at a large brewery. I had a previous internship at Terrapin Brewing Co. in Athens and it was a blast. It is a stretch because the pay is not the best, but I think in terms of enjoying my work this would be the most gratifying.
Who in your field do you look up to?
I work and conduct research for Dr. Feng Chen here at Clemson-- so he is someone who I look up to in terms of knowledge and accomplishments.
What is something you enjoy outside of the classroom?
If my schedule was not so busy this semester, I would be back on the rowing team for my second varsity season!
Any advice to current or prospective students?
Really work hard on your resume to make sure that it has quality substance and is visually pleasing. If you are planning on applying for a position, do your research! Companies will ask about your knowledge of the business and stance on hot topics that they may be dealing with.
