Architected Materials

The Architected Materials group within the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Research Cluster strives to engineer new solid matters with prescribed, extreme, and unorthodox properties by designing and manipulating their underlying architectures at multiple scales. We will examine 3D behaviors rather than 2D, multiple scales (>2) concurrently, multiple-field properties, and cross-disciplinary applications.

Our group aims to formulate an integrative strategy—design, analysis, experiment, and advanced fabrication—to program and architect material systems with extraordinary mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, and/or acoustic properties and material characteristics such as lightweight, resilient, responsive and intelligent.
