Graduate School Special Events

Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week (GPSAW), held each April, recognizes and celebrates the contributions of graduate and professional students to the University and wider community. The week includes a range of activities, such as networking events, workshops, professional development opportunities and opportunities for students to connect with faculty and staff.

The Clemson Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS) provides graduate students an opportunity to showcase their work, share their findings with others and gain feedback from faculty, staff and other students. Graduate students from a wide range of disciplines present their research to the University community via posters, exhibits, videos and demonstrations. A panel of faculty members serve as judges.

Additionally, GRADS allows graduate students to network with fellow students and mentors. Graduate Student Government, which hosts the event each April, publishes detailed information on its GRADS event page.

The 3-Minute Thesis® (3MT) competition is an academic event in which graduate students are challenged to present the key findings of their thesis or dissertation research in a clear, concise and engaging manner, using only a single slide. The presentations are limited to three minutes to make complex research accessible to a non-specialist audience. The competition allows students to improve their communication and presentation skills and showcase their research to a broader audience. The winner of Clemson’s 3MT competition in November goes on to compete in the regional competition held at the annual Council of Southern Graduate Schools annual conference. The Graduate School and campus partners host periodic viewings of “Picture a Scientist,” an award-winning documentary about gender bias in academia. More information on the film, including any upcoming viewing events, is available on the “Picture a Scientist” event page.
