Profile

Dr. Arguelles-Ramos obtained a B.A.S. and M.S. in Animal Industry at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM), and a Ph.D. in Animal and Poultry Science and Physiology from North Carolina State University. She is a non-ruminant nutritionist with 14 years of experience formulating commercial and experimental premixes and finished feeds for poultry. She served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses and developed an applied poultry research program focused on evaluating alternative ingredients and feed additives. In addition, Dr. Arguelles-Ramos served as technical manager for animal nutrition companies, such as ADM and Novus International, Inc., for Puerto Rico and North America.

Research Interests

- Evaluation of potential alternative feed ingredients, optimal inclusion rates, study of interaction with other feedstuffs, enzymes, and additives. Also, she is interested in feed manufacturing, and meat and egg quality parameters, that could be affected by the inclusion of such ingredients. Dr. Arguelles-Ramos has been studying the effects of the inclusion of black soldier fly larvae meal on growth performance, meat and egg characteristics, and intestinal health of different poultry species.

Interests also include:

- Exploring feeding and health management strategies to improve gut health. Commercial and novel probiotics, prebiotics, vaccines, and other additives have shown great potential under an integrated approach.

- Exploring cost-effective nutritional and feeding strategies to reduce white striping in breast and thigh meat of chickens.
