 Profile

Vicky Bertagnolli serves as a Consumer Horticulture Agent, a Virtual Extension Agent, and the "bug geek" in Aiken County and with the Home and Garden Information Center (HGIC).

Before joining Clemson in January 2008, Vicky spent seven years as a full-time research technician with Auburn University's Alabama Fire Ant Management Program. Vicky's research program examined the mechanical, cultural, biological, and chemical control of fire ants. In addition to fire ant research, Vicky worked with the School IPM Program and the Pesticide Safety Education Program. Vicky gained practical knowledge of IPM while working part-time for a small, privately owned pest control company.

Vicky's areas of expertise include imported fire ant biology and management, insect identification, and urban pest management using integrated pest management (IPM).

Vicky is active on local and programmatic social media, makes regular appearances on SCETV's Making It Grow, travels the state for speaking engagements, developed the HGIC's "What is it? Wednesday", manages the Horticulture Program Team's monthly learning sessions, and provides horticulture-related information to local, statewide, national, and international clients.

Vicky holds a B.S. in Wildlife Sciences from Auburn University and was awarded her M.S. in Entomology from Auburn University on August 6, 2016.
