The College of Education is home to a host of nationally recognized centers, institutes, labs and programs that help us extend the reach of our commitment to systematically improve education. The efforts focus on such important issues as special needs, diversity, literacy and writing, STEM/STEAM, digital media, arts education, early learning and educational policy. These outreach efforts make a tangible, positive difference in the lives of individuals and communities in South Carolina and around the globe.

Center of Excellence for Digital Media and Learning

The Center of Excellence for Digital Media and Learning prepares future educators with a solid instructional technology foundation by developing cutting-edge programs and software applications that have helped teachers across the country.  For more information, contact Ryan Visser.

Center of Excellence for Innovation in Mathematics and Science

Center of Excellence for Innovation in Mathematics and Science improves the motivation, potential and achievement of students and teachers through sustained engagement in science, math, engineering and technology. Reading Recovery® and Early Literacy Training Center for South Carolina

Clemson University is the training site for Reading Recovery in South Carolina. Reading Recovery is one-on-one instructional intervention for first-time first graders who have difficulties learning to read. The goal of the program is to bring these children’s literacy skills within the average range of their peers’ achievements. Established in 1989, Clemson University’s Reading Recovery® and Early Literacy Training Center for South Carolina coordinates Reading Recovery Training and professional development for South Carolina as well as neighboring states in collaboration with South Carolina’s Department of Education. Education Media Center

The Education Media Center is a curriculum materials library that primarily supports the students, faculty and staff of Clemson University’s College of Education by providing spaces, resources and services to facilitate the development of educators, counselors, administrators, training and development specialists, and all learners.

Center for the Recruitment and Retention of Diverse Educators

Center for the Recruitment and Retention of Diverse Educators (CRe2DE) researches, designs, and implements the best strategies for recruiting and retaining diverse educators in the state of South Carolina, in conjunction with partners in designated high-poverty school districts and neighboring two- and four-year institutions of higher education. CRe2DE is creating infrastructure to support diverse educator development and building a clearinghouse of best practice resources to guide their early identification, preparation experiences, and professional culture of support. The primary goal of the Center is to create greater demographic parity between the state’s teacher workforce and its student population. For more information, contact Roy Jones or Faiza Jamil.
