Cooperating Teachers and University Supervisors

S.C. Teaching Standards Rubric Training

University Supervisors

Candidates are supported throughout their field and clinical placements by two types of clinical educators: cooperating teachers and university supervisors. Cooperating teachers and university supervisors are required to attend training to learn how to use the South Carolina Teaching Standards (SCTS) rubric effectively. Training also focuses on ways to effectively support teacher candidates. University Supervisors must also pass the NIET SCTS Certification exam and maintain a current SCTS certificate.

An introduction to the ways that University Supervisors for initial teacher preparation candidates will use the South Carolina Teaching Standards Rubric can be found below.

University Supervisors must apply through Clemson’s formal application process. University Supervisors are also required to sign and return a Roles and Responsibilities form after attending annual training.

Cooperating Teachers who host a senior teacher candidate will receive a monetary stipend and a letter that can be used for recertification purposes. Teachers who host a candidate during for an early field experience will receive a letter that can be used for recertification purposes.  All Cooperating Teachers are provided with a copy of the Teach a Tiger document which outlines the roles and responsibilities for cooperating teachers.

Cooperating Teachers and University Supervisors can find additional information the responsibilities associated with supporting a teacher candidate in the Field and Clinical Experiences handbook.
