Profile
Andrea Oyuela received her degree in Agricultural Engineering from Zamorano University, Honduras, in 2023. She moved to the U.S. in 2025 to pursue graduate studies at Clemson University, where she is currently completing her Master's degree in Animal Science, with an emphasis in ruminant nutrition, forage utilization, and enteric methane mitigation. She is currently a graduate student under the guidance of Dr. Liliane Silva and Dr. Matias Aguerre.
Research Interests
Andrea's research centers on enteric methane mitigation in ruminants, with a focus on developing novel feed additive strategies that are both effective and practical for producers to adopt. Currently, she is investigating two approaches to inhibit key enzymes involved in methanogenesis: egg-derived antibodies (IgY) from chickens immunized against rumen methanogen proteins, and bioactive fermentation products from Streptomyces spp. Beyond this project, she is interested in ruminant nutrition, forage quality and utilization, and more broadly, in the development of strategies, including feed additives and management practices, that reduce the environmental impact of cattle production, particularly greenhouse gas emissions.
