As Emergency Preparedness Veterinarian she assists with training related to foreign animal diseases and serves as liaison to state emergency management to assist with resource coordination for animal/agricultural issues in disasters. Preparedness efforts for SC are enhanced by collaboration with other animal/agricultural emergency planners in regional and national groups including the AVMA Committee on Disasters and Emergency Issues (past Chair); Southern Agriculture and Animal Disaster Response Alliance (past Co-Chair); National Alliance of State Animal and Agriculture Emergency Programs (member, Board of Directors); and US Animal Health Association Committee on Animal Emergency Management (Vice-Chair). Charlotte has been trained by USDA as a Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician. She is the Unit Coordinator for the SC Veterinary Reserve Corps, a new group aiming to recruit and train volunteers who can assist people in disasters with issues related to animals and agriculture.
