Senior Area Extension Agent – Horticulture and Master Gardener Coordinator
James is a Senior Horticulture Extension Agent providing multiple educational programs in his primary county of Greenwood. In addition, James provides horticulture support in Abbeville, McCormick and Laurens counties. His expertise includes arboriculture, forest genetics, home vegetable production, and landscape and turf management. Additionally he supports commercial turf, ornamental producers and pesticide applicators with training and licensing recertification. James serves as coordinator and instructor for local Master Gardener training courses, neighborhood vegetable gardens and the Greenwood County Farmers Market. He writes a weekly horticulture article for Greenwood’s newspaper, the Index-Journal.
He received a BS degree in Forestry and a MS degree in Forest Genetics from North Carolina State University. He spent 25 years working for southern Forestry Companies in Tree Improvement and Forest Management research. He also managed forest seedling nurseries and forest tree seed orchards. He has fifteen years with Clemson Extension in the Lakelands.
