Profile

Maria is originally from Honduras, where she earned her B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from Zamorano University. She holds an M.S. in Poultry Science from Mississippi State University, with a focus on nutrition. After completing her M.S., she worked for Cargill, Inc. as an Operations Analyst in the poultry nutrition department. She is currently a Ph.D. student under the guidance of Dr. Ahmed Ali and Dr. Mireille Arguelles-Ramos.

Research Interests

Maria's research focuses on poultry nutrition, with an emphasis on evaluating alternative feed ingredients and their effects on bird performance, nutrient utilization, egg quality, bone health, and intestinal integrity. Her current research explores the use of grain sorghum as an alternative feed ingredient in poultry diets. Maria’s broader interests include monogastric nutrition, feed ingredient evaluation, and sustainable strategies to improve poultry production.
