Educational Background
B.S. Wildlife and Fisheries Biology
Clemson University 2023
Profile
Hailing from the far off shores of Myrtle Beach, SC. Michael grew up with a love of the beach and forest that make up coastal South Carolina. Supplied with Nat Geo kids editions and monthly camping trips, it almost seemed destined he would pursue environmental research. During his undergrad at Clemson, Michael was involved in several projects dealing with forest ecosystem and found a love of forest ecology in the process. After graduating, he worked as a seasonal tech for 2 years roaming around the country learning new ecosystems and developing his techniques from undergrad. In his most recent role, Michael was working as a senior technician at Nemours Wildlife Foundation where he oversaw in-house field operations and supported researchers from various universities.
Michael is now a M.S. Student under Dr. Lydia O'Halloran. He is studying the effects of cattle grazing and prescribed fire on longleaf pine savannas in coastal South Carolina. Following graduation, his hope is to further his career in forest ecology while also fostering respect and connection to forests in his home communities.
In his free time, you can find Michael hiking, reading, or playing music.
