Profile

Dr. M. Soledad Peresin is the Director of the Wood Utilization + Design Institute at Clemson University, where she also holds a joint faculty appointment in the Departments of Forestry, Conservation and Environment and Materials Science and Engineering. With more than two decades of academic and industrial experience, her research is centered on advancing the circular bioeconomy through the transformation of lignocellulosic biomass into high-value materials for packaging, construction, and biomedical applications.
Dr. Peresin earned her Licenciate in Analytical Chemistry from Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Argentina (2007) and her Ph.D. in Forest Biomaterials from North Carolina State University (2011). Before joining Clemson, she served as a Professor at Auburn University, where she founded and led the Sustainable Bio-Based Materials Lab. She also spent five years as a Senior Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, collaborating closely with industry on fiber-based innovations.
A recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER Award in 2021, Dr. Peresin has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and is deeply engaged in professional leadership. She currently serves on the TAPPI Board of Directors and holds active roles within TAPPI and the American Chemical Society (ACS), contributing to the global advancement of sustainable materials science.
