Profile

I am Vasanthkumar S.S., a Ph.D. student in Plant and Environmental Sciences with a focus on horticulture. My research focuses on improving vegetable production systems in South Carolina, particularly grafted watermelon. I also work on organic farming, water and nutrient use efficiency, and greenhouse and nursery management. My primary goal is to help farmers increase profitability and address real-world field challenges by developing simple, practical, and cost-effective solutions that improve crop yield while reducing input costs. In addition to watermelon, my research experience includes crops such as tomato and collard greens to support sustainable production systems in the Southeastern United States. I am actively involved in professional development and regularly engage with scientific communities through conferences and research activities. I am also a member of professional organizations such as the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS), and I contribute to extension and outreach efforts aimed at translating research findings into practical recommendations for growers.
