Profile

Yuhua Zheng, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Forest Resources, collaborates with Dr. Hagan on the Wildfire DOE project. His research primarily focuses on environmental contaminants and the intricate exploration of Pyrogenic Organic Matter (PyOM). With a solid foundation in both chemistry and agriculture, He brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to his studies, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications in environmental science.

Research Interests

My research delves into the complex chemistry of organic matter (OM) in forest soils. I have a specific focus on the impacts of wildfires on the composition of Pyrogenic Organic Matter (PyOM) and its post-fire transport. This involves detailed molecular analysis using Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS). Additionally, I assess the effects of fire events on soil nutrient dynamics and watershed quality in surrounding areas. Beyond this, my interests extend to the physical degradation mechanisms of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), particularly through adsorption and desorption processes.
