After participating in the President's Leadership Institute (PLI), Legette was inspired to develop the Extension Emerging Leadership Initiative (EELI)in 2018 for Extension professionals interested in developing their leadership knowledge and skills. Recognized on the regional and national levels, the program has 68 premier graduates/leaders (5 cohorts) from CU Extension Service, CU College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences (CAFLS), and SC State University 1890 Research and Extension.

Profile

Deon S. Legette's focus area is Leadership Development. She also serves as a liaison between stakeholders, constituents, community partners, and Extension personnel to facilitate relationships, identify community needs, and connect individuals and organizations with the expertise necessary to address challenges and create meaningful, sustainable impact across South Carolina.

She began her career with Clemson as a Family and Consumer Sciences agent in Lexington County where she served adult and youth audiences for fifteen years. As her career advanced, she transferred to Kershaw County where she served ten years as Regional Lead Agent, Food Safety/Nutrition agent, and 4-H Youth Development agent. She also served as the Midlands District Director for five years and Assistant Extension Director for Personnel Management for four years.

She is a member of the state and national Extension Associations of Family and Consumer Sciences and the state and national Associations of Epsilon Sigma Phi Extension fraternity.
