Branding Resources

As part of the rebranding of the College of Science, this page has been created to provide an easy way to find resources or get guidance on how these resources should be used. If you have any questions about the proper or appropriate use of these resources, please contact the communications and marketing department.

It is an exciting time to be at Clemson as we collectively advance ScienceForward!

BRAND COMPLIANCE

The “SCIENCE” logo was designed to capitalize on the University’s strongest branding element: the Paw. The word “SCIENCE” stands alone, as a bold and forward facing symbol of our college.

The College of Science is now represented by simply SCIENCE, hence this replaces the previous acronym COS. Acronyms that arise out of a need for shorthand internal communication are often confusing and alienating to external users. All members of the College need to fully transition to using SCIENCE and eliminating the use of COS.

Individual departments have chosen logos to represent them. To capitalize on the strength of consistency, these chosen logos will be the only logos to represent the departments.

If there are any questions, please contact the communications and marketing department.

LOGOS, LETTERHEAD AND PRESENTATIONS

A logo has been created for the College of Science, as well as for each department. When you download a logo ZIP file, it will contain a number of versions and formats, each designed for a different use. Please be sure to use the proper logo format. Using the proper format ensures that the logo looks good and upholds our branding excellence. For some EPS logos, a corresponding PDF may be included; this PDF is generally functionally equivalent to the EPS.

Letterhead, in Microsoft Word .docx format, is also available for download. Presentation templates in Microsoft PowerPoint format, are also available for download.

DO YOU USE APPLE PAGES OR KEYNOTE? Download the appropriate Word or PowerPoint template, and simply open it with Pages or Keynote. The file will be converted for your use. Word templates appear to convert very well; PowerPoint templates convert, but there may be some shifting of elements.

A note about logos: We have tried to include the commonly used versions and styles of logos, but if the style you need is not found, please contact the communications team. Do not modify logos. If you have a question, please contact the communications and marketing department. Note that the Paw may only be reproduced in orange or white (or as white with a black outline). It may never be reproduced in black.

Logo formats, explained

Which logo format is best? Each logo file format is suited for a specific task. Here is a brief description of the five types, and where usage is appropriate.

CMYK.eps — This logo is for professional print use; it is generally the best logo to use. Note that EPS files will open on a Mac without any special software, but may not open on a PC unless appropriate software has been loaded. However, that does not impact functionality; the logo can be sent to a vendor or graphic artist for use in a design. This is:

    • A vector logo, meaning it can be resized without any quality loss
    • A four-color process logo file, ideal for normal commercial printing
    • Perfect for brochures, banners, signs, booklets and forms

SPOT.eps — This logo is for professional print use. It is similar to the CMYK.eps, but for specialized print use.

    • A spot-color  logo file, meaning each color uses its own ink, which can add expense, but in some cases, quality

SPOT_WhiteInk.eps — This logo is for specialty items, such as T-shirts and other marketing materials where the base color (fabric, for example) may be purple or orange, and the logo must be “printed” with white ink. For T-shirts and specialty items, make sure the logo supplied meets specifications. Note that EPS files will open on a Mac without any special software, but may not open on a PC unless appropriate software has been loaded. However, that does not impact functionality; the logo can be sent to a vendor or graphic artist for use in a design.

RGB.jpg — This logo is for online or internal “office” use. It should not be used for commercially printed jobs. This is:

    • A raster logo, meaning it is basically a photograph
    • Not ideal for enlargement (or reduction) as quality quickly suffers
    • Perfect for use on websites, in social media, in email, or in Microsoft Office documents
    • OK for basic documents that will be only printed on a desktop printer
    • Not transparent

RGB.png — This logo is for online or internal “office” use. It should not be used for commercially printed jobs. This is:

    • A raster logo, meaning it is basically a photograph
    • Not ideal for enlargement (or reduction) as quality quickly suffers
    • Perfect for use on websites, in social media, in email, or in Microsoft Office documents where transparency is required
    • OK for basic documents that will be only printed on a desktop printer
    • Transparent

Note that PDF versions of logos may also be included. PDF logos can generally be used in place of EPS logos if desired.
